His elder brother has become the head of the mosque by pretending to be his younger brother dead. Local Muslims, including the younger brother, have expressed extreme anger over this.
This has happened in the Uttar Medeni Mandal area of Padma Setu Uttar Police Station in Munshiganj.
Since this is the only mosque in front of the Padma Setu Toll Plaza, hundreds of Muslims from South Bengal stop their cars and offer prayers at this mosque every Friday, including the time prayer. There is extreme anger among Muslims over such a fraud regarding this mosque.
According to the Waqf State EC No. 18453, the Uttar Medeni Mandal Minar Mosque was established on the Dhaka-Mawa Service Lane in 1934. His predecessor Montaj Uddin Howladargong, in the hope of attaining nearness to the afterlife, granted a waqf name to the Uttar Medeni Mandal Minar Mosque. As per the terms of the waqf deed, Jalal Uddin will be the Motawalli of the estate and he will perform the duties of Motawalli for his lifetime. In his absence, the eldest among the brothers and his own sons and grandsons will be appointed as Motawalli.
Accordingly, until 1997, Saidur Rahman Lattu alias Syedur Rahman, grandson of the deceased Montaj Uddin Howladar, has been performing the duties as Motawalli. In 1997, while Saidur Rahman Lattu alias Saidur Rahman was alive, his elder brother Mashiur Rahman Badal resorted to fraud by pretending to be dead and presenting himself as the sole heir of the family, submitted a certificate to the Waqf State and became the Motawalli of the North Medeni Mandal Minar Mosque. When the matter became known in the area, local Muslims including younger brother Saidur Rahman Lattu expressed extreme anger.
On February 26, 2025, the Medeni Mandal local UP chairman issued a certificate stating that younger brother Saidur Rahman Lattu was alive.
Locals also said that Motawalli Mashiur Rahman lives in Narayanganj with his family instead of staying in the Badal area. He does not collect donations from other funds including the mosque and deposit them in the mosque fund and does not discuss the settlement of accounts with anyone in the mosque committee. When the committee members want to develop the mosque, he creates obstacles and refrains from participating in any work of the mosque by claiming that he is physically ill and disabled. He has been running the mosque committee on his own without consulting anyone regarding the mosque. In this regard, Al Amin Hawlader, a descendant of Montaz Uddin Hawlader, filed a written complaint with the Waqf Administrator.
In this regard, younger brother Saidur Rahman Lattu said, I went to the Waqf State Office with people and found out that my elder brother Mashiur Rahman Badal had shown me dead at the Waqf State Office and became the Mutawalli of the mosque. However, I am still alive. I have verbally sought justice from the Waqf State against such fraud and lies by my elder brother Mashiur Rahman Badal.
Despite calling the mobile number used by Mashiur Rahman Badal, the Motawalli of Uttar Medeni Mandal Minar Mosque, several times to inquire about becoming the Motawalli of the mosque through fraud, he did not answer.
