Allegations of assault against Jubo Dal leader in Sreenagar; 4 Injured

Sreenagar (Munshiganj) Correspondent

Allegations have been made against a Jubo Dal leader for leading an assault in Sreenagar. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Purbo-Munsia village of Kukutia area under the upazila.

Four youths from the same union—Joy (16), Mahin (19), Md. Ibrahim (18), and Imran (18) from Modhyo Nagorbhog village—were injured and later treated at the Upazila Health Complex.

Following the incident, Joy’s father Md. Delwar Hossain filed a written complaint at Srinagar Police Station against HM Likhon (30), a member of the Upazila Jubo Dal convening committee and former general secretary of the Kukutia Union Chhatra Dal, along with Md. Babu (40), Md. Shihab (23), Ripon (34), Sajid (16), Mizan (17), Yasin (19), and Nafiz (17).

According to local sources, the incident stemmed from an eve-teasing case on May 2 in Nagorbhog village. A teenage gang from Purbo-Munsia was allegedly involved, and a meeting was held at a local Jubo Dal leader’s office to resolve the issue. During the meeting, gang members including Sajid reportedly appeared armed with local weapons, causing respected community members to leave the scene.

On Friday afternoon, Joy and his friends visited Purbo-Munsia, where they were allegedly attacked by the teenage gang under the protection of the Jubo Dal leader. Allegations have surfaced that the gang, operating under Likhon’s patronage, has become reckless—engaging in drug dealing, abuse, and other criminal activities in the area.

A local BNP leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed that opportunist Likhon Sheikh had joined the Awami League in 2021 but later rejoined the BNP.

Md. Delwar Hossain, father of the victim Joy, said, “Local community leaders are aware of the matter. Backed by Likhon Sheikh’s influence, the gang brutally assaulted my son, nephew, and their two friends. With no other option, I filed a complaint with the police.”

When contacted, Jubo Dal leader HM Likhon denied the allegations, stating, “The accusations against me are false. A meeting was held to resolve the initial dispute, but it remained unsettled. I learned about the assault incident later and was not involved.” Regarding his political affiliation, he added, “I briefly joined the Awami League due to some temporary issues but later returned to the BNP.”

Sub-Inspector Mohammad Bin-Asad of Sreenagar Police Station, the investigating officer, said, “We have received the complaint and will take necessary action following an investigation.”
