Women are still considered second-class citizens : JnU VC

JnU Correspondent

Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University, Sadeka Halim, said, Our constitution says that we are all equal. But in many cases, men and women are still not equal, and women are still considered second-class citizens. I am very proud to be a Bengali; if I had been given such a chance to be born again, I would have been born a Bengali woman.

On Sunday, the Vice-Chancellor said these in the speech of the chief guest during the inauguration of a art camp titled 'Liberation War and Victory Gatha' organised by the Fine Arts Department on the occasion of Victory Day.

The vice chancellor said, The solemnity, joy, and excitement of victory are all associated with art. Our identity has changed in various political climates; our Bengali identity was also killed by killing the Father of the Nation with his family on August 15, 1975. Although the country was divided on the basis of religion, there were more differences than similarities in our society and culture with Pakistan.

The event was presided over by Professor Md. Aloptoin, Chairman of the Fine Arts Department and conducted by Professor Dr. Bozlur Rashid Khan, the head of the Fine Arts Department where Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, the University Treasurer, the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, Prof. Nisar Hossain, and the Dean of the Arts Faculty of Jagannath University, Prof. Dr. Hosneara Begum, were present as special guests.

At that time, the deans of various departments, directors of institutes, department chairmen, teachers, and students of the university were present.

The exhibition of the artworks created in the art camp will be inaugurated on December 18. The exhibition will be open to all.
