Voter list update campaign : One lakh new voters in Narayanganj dist

A total of 1,05,519 new voters have been added in Narayanganj district through the voter list update program, marking a 5% increase.

Additionally, 22,599 registered absentee voters were recorded, while 24,000 deceased voters were removed from the list, according to the Narayanganj District Election Office. The voter list update campaign took place across five upazilas of the district from January 20 to February 3.

During this period, 1,05,519 individuals completed forms to become registered voters. Meanwhile, 24,000 names were removed from the list as they had passed away before the update process. This accounts for 1.04% of the total voters.

According to the District Election Office, the total number of voters in Narayanganj now stands at 23,02,761. The updated voter list includes an increase of 1,05,519 voters, equivalent to 5% of the total electorate. Among them, 72,243 were previously unregistered voters from 2007, comprising 34,537 men, 37,704 women, and 2 hijra voters.

Additionally, 33,276 voters were born in or after 2008, including 16,479 men and 16,797 women. The number of registered absentee voters is 22,599, while 24,000 deceased voters were removed, consisting of 13,634 men and 10,369 women, accounting for 1.04% of the total electorate.

At a press conference on February 4 at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed announced that 49,70,388 new voters have been added across the country in this update cycle. However, the commission initially aimed to register over 61 lakh new voters. Additionally, 15,23,000 deceased voters, accounting for 1.77% of the total, have been removed from the national voter list.

Regarding female voter registration, he stated that 16 lakh women have registered in this cycle. Those who missed the registration can still be included, as the process will continue until April 11. Eligible individuals can register online or at regional offices. He also assured that any households missed by data collectors would be reviewed. The Election Commission has no reports of underage (17-year-old) individuals being registered as voters, but if specific cases are reported, they will be investigated.

The Narayanganj District Election Office reported that, ahead of the 12th National Parliamentary Elections, the estimated number of voters across the five constituencies in the district is 22,50,691. Among these, Narayanganj-4 has the highest number of voters at 6,94,207, reflecting an increase of 61,585 voters. This constituency has 231 polling centers and 1,562 booths.

On the other hand, Narayanganj-2 (Araihazar) has the lowest number of voters, totaling 3,31,779. This constituency has 117 polling centers and 741 booths. In the previous election, the constituency had 2,83,867 voters, meaning it saw an increase of 47,798 voters.

The voter distribution in the remaining constituencies is as follows:

Narayanganj-1 (Rupganj): 3,86,012 voters (previously 3,49,790), an increase of 36,222. Narayanganj-3 (Sonargaon): 3,44,720 voters (previously 3,03,837), an increase of 40,831. Narayanganj-5 (Sadar-Bandar): 4,96,299 voters (previously 4,45,616), an increase of 50,683.

According to the district election office, the five parliamentary constituencies in Narayanganj have seen a total increase of 2,37,069 new voters, while 782 new polling centers have been added. Among the new voters, 1,23,459 are male, and 1,19,345 are female.

The constituency-wise increase in new voters is as follows: Narayanganj-1 (Rupganj): 36,222 new voters. Narayanganj-2 (Araihazar): 47,798 new voters. Narayanganj-3 (Sonargaon): 40,831 new voters. Narayanganj-4 (Fatullah-Siddhirganj): 61,585 new voters. Narayanganj-5 (Sadar-Bandar):50,683 new voters.
