Four days ago, a group of dacoits  looted eight cows from a farmer, but the local police have taken no action so far. In the meantime, the dacoits  slaughtered two of the cows and held a feast. The barbaric nature of the incident has sparked outrage among residents of Jokardia village in Mahmudpur Union under Araihazar Upazila of Narayanganj district.

 OC  of Araihazar Police Station, Khondokar Nasir Uddin, stated, “We have not received any complaint regarding the incident. If a complaint is filed, we will investigate and take legal action.”

 UP member of Jokardia village, Sattar Miah, reported that on the night of Wednesday, May 21, a local gang abducted and severely tortured three individuals, including a Union Parishad member, from their homes in Mahmudpur Union’s Jokardia village. Since the incident, the area has been gripped by fear. People are too scared to speak out, let alone file a police complaint.

 It has been reported that a known bandit named Safu, who is accused in several robbery cases, has been openly roaming the area and leading criminal activities. Fearing that someone might report him to the police or that locals might lynch him, Safu and his gang attacked the homes of Joynal and Kamal on Wednesday night. They looted two cows from Joynal, two from Kamal, and four from Jamal, also vandalizing their houses. During the attack, they abducted Sattar (the UP member), Shahadat, and Babul, and took them to Safu’s house, where they were brutally tortured.

Safu and his men later took the stolen cows to Mordasadi village, slaughtered two of them, and held a lavish feast.

Since the incident, an eerie silence and intense fear have enveloped the village. Locals have stopped working, afraid that Safu and his gang might launch another attack. According to residents, the injured victims have been sent to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Pongu Hospital) and other hospitals in Dhaka for treatment.
