The United Nations is set to investigate incidents of mob violence, systemic harassment, and intimidation targeting teachers and students across various educational institutions in Bangladesh.

According to reports and representatives from education rights groups, educational institutions have recently witnessed an alarming surge in extrajudicial actions, forced resignations, physical assaults, and harassment. Thousands of teachers have allegedly been forced to resign or have faced arbitrary disciplinary action under political and social pressure.

Prof. Golam Rabbani, President of the Teachers and Students Association for Educational Reforms, ssid that a fact-finding mission from the UN will closely examine these violations, document the extent of victimisation, and assess the broader impact on the country's academic environment.

The investigation aims to address allegations regarding forced resignations and harassment of thousands of teachers across schools, colleges, and universities, physical attacks and arbitrary dismissals affecting educators and students, as well as the severe deterioration of the academic atmosphere and safety on university campuses.

Educationists and civil society leaders have expressed grave concern over the breakdown of administrative order in academic institutions, calling for immediate measures to restore safety, justice, and legal accountability. The upcoming UN assessment is expected to highlight structural vulnerabilities and recommend measures to uphold human rights and academic freedom in the country's education sector.
