Two policemen suspended over killing of Abu Sayeed in Rangpur

Two police personnel have been suspended over the killing of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayeed during the quota reform movement in Rangpur on July 16.
They are Sub-Inspector (SI) Amir Hosain and constable Sujan Chandra, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman told this Correspondent on Saturday (August 3).
They were suspended due to their 'unprofessional behaviour, negligence in discharging duty and violation of legal order given by the higher authorities', he said.
Earlier, police claimed that Abu Sayeed was killed by the bullets fired and brickbats thrown away by protestors. They also mentioned in the case statement. However, investigation into the murder is going on. Steps would be taken if any police personnel was found involved. They also called for waiting for the postmortem report in this regard.
RMP Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman said Abu Sayeed's postmortem report has not been received yet. The reasons behind his death would be known after receiving it. Investigation is goin on. The entire incident would become clear on completion of investigation process.
On July 16 last, Abu Sayeed, a student of the Department of English belonging to the 12th batch of Begum Rokeya University was killed being hit by a rubber bullet during a violent clash between police and quota reform protestors. Then the quota reform movement received a boost.
