Tragic death of two minors leaves village in mourning in Gobindaganj

Two children tragically drowned after falling into a pond while playing near their home in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district on Wednesday afternoon. The heartbreaking incident occurred in Dashlal Paschim Hajrapara village under Shakhahar Union, casting a shadow of grief over the entire community.
The deceased were identified as Mim Akter, 3, daughter of Farhad Ali of Dashlal village, and her cousin Afrin Akter, 3, daughter of Kabir Mondal of Delduar upazila in Tangail district. Afrin had come to her maternal uncle’s house with her family a few days earlier.
According to local sources, Mim and Afrin were playing together in the courtyard of their house on Wednesday morning. At one stage, they reportedly wandered near a pond adjacent to the house without the knowledge of their family members and accidentally fell into the water.
When the children could not be found for a long time, family members began searching frantically around the area. Failing to locate them elsewhere, they searched the nearby pond and found the two children floating in the water. With the help of local residents, they were quickly rescued, but both had already died.
The sudden deaths of the two children triggered scenes of grief and mourning among their family members and neighbors. The entire village was left stunned by the tragedy.
