Traffic congestion on Bangabandhu Setu highway, slow traffic

Masudul Hasan Masud, Bhuyapur (Tangail)

Four-lane work is in progress up to the east of the bridge at Elenga on the Bangabandhu Bridge Highway. Due to erratic driving by drivers and increased traffic pressure due to Eid, the 13 km road has slowed down the traffic. In some places, traffic is stopped due to traffic jams.

Such a situation has been created on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Setupurba highway since the early hours of Wednesday (June 12). Passengers and drivers have suffered greatly.

Meanwhile, the number of traffic on the highway has increased even though the Eid holiday has not started. The rate of toll collection on Bangabandhu Bridge is constantly increasing. In the last 24 hours, 28 thousand 401 vehicles crossed the bridge and collected toll of 2 crore 68 lakh 20 thousand 250 taka.

It is known that the traffic jam started from Bangabandhu East Crossing on Tuesday night. After slowly going through the traffic jam, reach the Rabna bypass of Tangail on the road of about 23 kilometers. However, since the Dhaka-bound vehicles crossed the bridge and used the Bhuapur-Elenga regional road, the traffic congestion started to reduce from morning.

Elenga highway police outpost in charge Mir Md. Sajedur Rahman said that the work of four lanes on the highway from Elenga to Setu is going on. Besides, traffic jams are created on highways due to reckless speeding of transport drivers at night. However, as the day progresses, the traffic jam will be eased.
