On the occasion of Chaitra Sankranti, the long-standing traditional Charak Puja and rural fair was held in Kantakhali, Chhota Bhakla Union, Goalando Upazila, Rajbari district on Monday afternoon.This day-long Charak Puja and rural fair is organized in the field next to the house of Prem Charan Fakir in Katakhali village. This Charak Puja is held on the last day of the month of Chaitra (according to the calendar).The main attraction of this Charak Puja is to tie a barashi to the back of a person and spin it on a spinning wheel. Thousands of people from local and far-off places come to watch this Charak Puja and rural fair. The main formalities of Charak Puja begin in the afternoon. Along with the worship of Charak Puja, Kali, Shitala and Buri Devi are worshipped. After that, two people are tied to the backs of two people and spun on a spinning wheel.The names of the two brothers who are carried around with spears on their backs Joy Biswas (22) and Devdas Biswas (24).Jaydev Sankar, who came to the fair, said, "I come to see this Charak Puja and fair every year. Whenever I hear about the spinning of a spinning wheel with a big stick inside my body, my heart shudders. Spinning a spinning wheel with a big stick inside my body is not done in many areas. My home is in Kolarhat. Such festivals are not held in that area, so I come here with my whole family. I feel very happy with the beautiful environment."Kamna Biswas said, "I come to this Charak fair every year. This time too, many people have come to this fair. There are various kinds of shops set up at the fair. People from Rajbari district and outside the district also come here to see the horses riding on a horse with a big stick on their backs. This fair is held on the last day of the month of Chaitra. This is a very old puja." Sujit Kumar Das said, "I have been watching this Charak Puja and fair since my childhood. I came with my family. I am praying to God."Badal Biswas, president of the fair celebration committee, said that during Charak Puja, those who are spun on a spinning wheel with a spear tied to their backs fast for a week. This Charak Puja and fair is organized every year on Chaitra Sankranti. Thousands of visitors come to see this traditional Charak Puja and fair. He further said that the fair is the oldest and most crowded in Rajbari district. Everyone comes to the fair and enjoys the joy.
