Munshiganj (South) Correspondent

Four students were injured in a clash between two groups of students at a secondary school in Gazaria, Munshiganj, over a trivial issue.

The incident occurred around 10:00 AM on Monday in front of Bhaterchar Dewan Abdul Mannan Pilot High School.

The injured students are Tahin (16), Zubayer (15), Abdullah (16), and Faizul Islam (17), all students of Bhaterchar Dewan Abdul Mannan Pilot High School.

Eyewitness and injured student Tahin said, “I am a ninth-grade student at the school. Yesterday (Sunday) morning, I fell asleep on a bench in the classroom. At that time, a student named Saeed kept trying to wake me up. When I asked him why he was doing that, we had a verbal argument, and he threatened me. As a result, on Monday (April 21) at around 10:00 AM, Saeed, Hasan, Iman, and an outsider named Pavel attacked me. Saeed had a hockey stick and used it to beat me badly. My head was split open. When my friends tried to rescue me, they were also assaulted. Later, nearby people intervened, and the attackers fled.”

Another injured student, Zubayer, said, “I tried to help my friend Tahin, but the attackers turned on me. They struck me with a hockey stick, causing four of my upper front teeth to fall out.”

Regarding the matter, Dr. Khandaker Arshad Kabir, emergency physician at Gazaria Upazila Health Complex, said, “Four injured students came to our hospital. We gave them primary treatment. Two of them had head injuries.”

The school’s head teacher, Shahjahan Sikder, stated, “We were at the SSC exam hall, and only three teachers were present at school today. We heard that an argument broke out between eighth and ninth-grade students over a greeting issue. Our teachers had already resolved the matter, but later the students’ guardians came to the school and escalated the situation. People from Anarpura and Boroikandi Bhaterchar villages became involved in the fight.”

Gazaria Upazila Secondary Education Officer Zakir Hossain said, “I was not aware of this incident. This is the first time I’m hearing about it from you. I will look into it.”

Gazaria Police Station OC Md. Anwar Alam Azad said, “Tahin’s mother, Jesmin Begum, has filed a written complaint regarding the incident. We are investigating the matter, and action will be taken accordingly.”
