A group of Jahangirnagar University (JU) students on Wednesday staged a late night torch procession protesting recent police-attack on students in relation to the Milestone College tragedy.
The protest commenced at around 10:30 pm at the Bot tola area of the campus. After parading several streets, the procession concluded at the central Shahid minar premises.
Addressing the protest, Jahidul Islam Emon, president of JU Chhatra Union, said, “We want to tell the interim government to not do anything that forces us to take to the streets against you again. You must present us with an accurate account of the teachers, officials, employees, and students who were killed.”
“You must provide proper compensation to the families of the deceased and show appropriate empathy," he continued.
Faiza Mehzabin, president of Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote (a faction), said, “After one year of the July uprising, the interim government has done the same thing that the fascist Hasina did. There was a heinous attack on the students when they came with a six point logical demand. We want to remind the interim government that July has not ended yet.”
“If this continues, you will accept the same fate as the Awami League experienced last year,” she added.
The demonstration was moderated by Syeda Meher Afroz Shaowli.
To be noted, yesterday, when Milestone College students came out with their 6 points demand, the police made a heinous attack on them.
