State Minister Sohel Monjur attends Int'l Day Against Drug Abuse function in Pirojpur

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026 was observed in Pirojpur on Friday with a colorful rally, discussion meeting, and prize distribution ceremony.
Jointly organized by the Pirojpur District Administration and the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), the events aimed to raise public awareness and foster social resistance against the drug menace.
The day's program commenced in the morning with a vibrant rally from the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises. Participants paraded the main thoroughfares of the town before concluding the march at the Town Club ground. Following the rally, a discussion meeting was held under the chairmanship of Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abu Sayeed.
Ahmed Sohel Monjur, Member of Parliament for the Pirojpur-2 Constituency and State Minister for Housing and Public Works, attended the discussion as the chief guest.
The event was also attended by special guests including Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Monjur Ahmmad Siddique, Pirojpur-1 lawmaker Masud Sayeed, and Zila Parishad Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain.
In his address, the Chief Guest emphasized that legal enforcement alone cannot completely eradicate the spread of narcotics. He stressed that a coordinated approach involving families, educational institutions, and social and religious organizations is vital to shield the youth from addiction. He called for building strong social resistance by keeping the younger generation informed and conscious of the devastating impacts of drug abuse.
Other speakers echoed these sentiments, labeling drug abuse as a severe threat to the youth and the overall progress of the state. They urged communities to actively engage young people in sports, creative arts, and cultural activities to utilize their potential constructively, while demanding strict action and collective resistance against drug traffickers.
The ceremony concluded with the chief guest and special guests distributing prizes among the winners of various competitions organized to mark the day.
A large number of government officials, public representatives, teachers, students, and representatives from different political, social, and cultural organizations attended the event.
