State Minister Bobby Hajjaj orders swift action to resolve Japan Garden City power crisis

Staff Correspondent

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education and Member of Parliament for Dhaka-13 constituency, Bobby Hajjaj on Thursday issued urgent directives to resolve the severe power outage plaguing the Japan Garden City residential area in Mohammadpur.

The lawmaker intervened immediately after being informed of the immense suffering confronting thousands of residents due to the prolonged blackout.

According to available data, the Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) has maintained a normal electricity supply up to the boundary of Japan Garden City through its 33 KV transmission line. However, power distribution within the massive residential complex collapsed entirely after the internal transformer at Japan Garden City's own 33 KV substation malfunctioned.

To alleviate the residents' plight, DPDC has expressed its readiness to temporarily provide an alternative transformer of equal capacity on a rental basis and has already instructed its officials to facilitate the process. However, the crisis remains unresolved because the Japan Garden City management committee has reportedly shown extreme indifference, failing to submit the required formal application or initiate effective coordination.

State Minister Bobby Hajjaj emphasized that public suffering is completely unacceptable and called upon all concerned parties to act with accountability. He noted that since DPDC is fully prepared to extend its cooperation, the swift decision-making and coordination of the residential complex's management committee are the main prerequisites to ending the blackout. The lawmaker warned that any further delay at the expense of the residents' well-being would not be tolerated.

The prolonged power outage, compounded by the management committee's lack of timely intervention, has left more than 3,000 residents of the housing complex stranded in darkness and extreme distress.
