After 20 years, the golden smile of Aush paddy growers has been seen in the water of that foot of Burichang Upazila of Cumilla.

Early this year, a canal was dug in the area at the initiative of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC). This has helped to produce 30,000 metric tons of crops.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of expansion of Bina-19 paddy planted in Payat water field, a field day was organized with the farmers at the local Fakir Bazaar on Tuesday and crop fields were inspected. Dr. Mirza Mofazzal Islam, Director General of Bangladesh Atomic Agriculture Research Institute (BINA) was the virtual chief guest.

Waterlogging became a poison for agriculture and farmers in the area. Due to this, waterlogging has occurred in 12,000 acres of arable land. Its direct victims are more than 5000 farming families. Payat water farmers cannot plant transplanted aman paddy. Some farmers cultivate boro paddy but cannot take it home due to early rains and hill slopes. At the beginning of this year, in response to the demand of the people, 25 km of the canal around the water.

The canal is being re-excavated. 16 km More canals have been re-excavated. Going to the ground, it can be seen that the golden crop is swaying in the wind. Somewhere the farmer is cutting paddy. The sweet smell of paddy in the field is floating in the air. The locals are fishing in the canal.

GiasUddin, Master of Haripur village said that people have smiled as a result of digging the canal. The land is being harvested. Can catch fish in the canal. There is a movement on the bank of the canal. BADC has planted wood and fruit trees there. It will provide shade to the farmer with nutritional supplement. Mobarok Hossain, a farmer from Dakshinpara area of Burichang Sadar, said, "We could not do a single crop properly due to water logging." Waterlogging has been removed due to canal excavation.

This time I have harvested aus. Got good yield. While inspecting the field, BADC Comilla Supervising Engineer and Project Director Engineer Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said that there was waterlogging in Payat for 20 years. The matter was recommended to Hon'ble Agriculture Minister Dr. Abdur Razzak and late MP Abdul Matin Khasru Sir. In consultation with them, an initiative was taken to dig a canal here. Excavation of canals removes waterlogging. Earlier, aus paddy could not be cultivated here. This time aus paddy has been cultivated under the initiative of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Binar. There has been good yield here. This will increase the country's food production.

This time we have cultivated Bina-19 and Bina-21. Got good yield. I hope at one time aus paddy will be cultivated in 12 thousand acres of this water.
