Six coordinators should be released or produced before court: HC
Court Correspondent
The High Court on Tuesday (30 July) said keeping the six quota protest coordinators under the custody of the Detective Branch (DB) of police is unlawful.
“They did not seek safety. Keeping them under custody like this is unlawful. They should be either released or produced before the court as arrested,” said the HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon made these remarks on Tuesday during the hearing of a writ petition seeking an order not to open fire on protesters and the release of six coordinators of the quota reform movement from DB custody.
During the hearing today, the HC bench said it was ashamed of the violence and deaths during the quota reform protests, adding that "none of us are doing our constitutional duty".
