Schoolgirl abducted in Manda, 3 accused arrested

M. Rezaul Islam, Naogaon

A 14-year-old Hindu schoolgirl, a student of class ten, was reportedly abducted in Manda upazila of Naogaon, prompting her family to file a case against three individuals, including the prime suspect.

According to police sources, the abduction occurred on Monday morning (April 14) when the girl was on her way to private tuition. The accused have been identified as Nur Nabi (19) and Abdul Jalil (45) of Kalinagar village, and Akash Hossain (20) of Chak Debiram village.

The victim’s father said his daughter left home around 8:30 AM for tuition. When she reached near the ‘Milon Sangha’ club, the accused—who had been lying in wait—forced her into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and abducted her.

According to the complaint, Akash Hossain had been repeatedly harassing the girl on her way to school and private classes, making unwanted advances and threats when she rejected his proposal. Despite informing the family of the prime accused Nur Nabi, no action was taken to restrain his behavior.

A formal abduction case was filed on Tuesday (April 15) at Manda Police Station against all three accused.

Talking to reporters, Manda Police Station OC Monsur Rahman confirmed the incident. “We have received the complaint and launched an operation to rescue the girl and arrest those involved,” he said.

The case has created concern from the local community, specially given the victim's minority background and the repeated incidents of harassment that reportedly preceded the abduction.
