Serious allegations have been found against Mozzafar Ali Musa, President of the expired committee of the Faridpur District unit of the BNP's labour wing, Sramik Dal.
He has allegedly engaged in activities contrary to the organization’s principles by allegedly rehabilitating Awami League leaders and activists in various upazila and municipal committees, posing as the president of the Sramik Dal.
BNP Joint Secretary Afzan Hossain Khan Palash made this allegations at a press conference on Saturday t the party office located in Habeli Gopalpur of Faridpur town.
It was organized under the banner of the district, metropolitan, and Kotwali thana committees of Sramik Dal.Veteran labor leader and founding General Secretary of the Faridpur District Sramik Dal, Md. Shamsul Haque Sardar, who is also the Senior Vice-President of the current committee, delivered a written statement at the press conference. Leaders from various committees of the organization were present during the briefing.According to Shamsul Haque Sardar, a three-year committee for the district Sramik Dal was formed in 2010 with Mozzafar Ali Musa as president and Oliar Rahman as general secretary. However, both reportedly became involved in Awami League politics soon after. In 2011, Mozzafar’s brother, Sheikh Mahtab Ali Methoo, joined then-Minister and AL MP Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and became municipal mayor. Allegedly, since then, Mozzafar, along with his brother, began implementing plans to paralyze the Sramik Dal under Mosharraf's direction, effectively halting the organization’s activities. By January 2018, they publicly joined Awami League through a rally organized by Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain. Since then, Mozzafar, under Mosharraf’s patronage, became involved in controversial activities including unethical business in residential hotels. His son-in-law, Asibur Rahman Farhan, a money laundering accused and General Secretary of the Metropolitan Jubo League, reportedly led a "Hammer Gang" that began targeting BNP activists.
Sardar also stated that the central committee was informed of these violations, and two investigative bodies—one four-member and one two-member—were formed, but no action was ultimately taken for unexplained reasons. He alleged that following the downfall of the Awami League government on August 5 (claimed politically), Mozzafar suddenly resumed political activities identifying himself as the president of Sramik Dal. Without organizing any official meetings or conferences, he allegedly formed upazila committees in Sadar, Bhanga, and Nagarkanda by backdating documents and in exchange for money. He also approved new committees in Boalmari upazila and municipality, reportedly appointing known Awami League loyalists like Mosharraf Hossain Musha Mia (AL upazila president) and former Chhatra League leader Liakat Shikder as president and general secretary respectively.
Among others present at the press conference were District Sramik Dal's 1st Vice-resident Md. Masudur Rahman Kotwali Thana Sramik Dal’s Secretary Abdus Sattar Joaddar Metropolitan Sramik Dal's Vice-President M. M. Jahangir Hossain .
Repeated attempts to contact Mozzafar Ali Musa for comment on the allegations were unsuccessful as his phone remained unreachable. However, Khwaja Khayer, the former Joint Secretary of the central Sramik Dal and current chairman of the Labor Board, who is responsible for overseeing the Faridpur region, stated that the allegations would be investigated. He further acknowledged that the Faridpur district unit is currently divided into several factions.
