Quader says it is not clear if Benazir has left country

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said he does not have clear idea about the travel details of ex-IGP Benazir Ahmed, implying the former police chief may have fled the country.
He was responding to a question at a press briefing regarding the arrest of Benazir, who has been accused of amassing huge amount of wealth through illegal means.
The press briefing was held at Awami League President's office in Dhanmondi in the capital.
Quader's remarks coincide with media reports published Friday that included claims by an unnamed ACC high official of Benazir's attempts to flee the country. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official, preferring anonymity, claimed he has information that Benazir is trying to flee the country to avoid legal proceedings for his wrongdoings.
In this backdrop, the anti-corruption watchdog would ask for travel ban on Benazir.
The process of detaining Benazir is ongoing, and investigations are being conducted to this end, Quader said.
If the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) files a case, the court will decide if Benazir needs to be arrested or not, Quader added.
