Public sufferings mount : Patuakhali Municipality waterlogged due to failure of completing drain work on time

This year, at the beginning of the monsoon season, waterlogging has started in every ward of Patuakhali Municipality due to just 2-3 hours of rain. This public suffering is going on due to the indifference of the municipal authorities.
According to sources, with the escape of the fascist government, the contractors of various drain works in Patuakhali Municipality have abandoned the work and the indifference of the municipal authorities have not completed the under-construction drain work on time, and waterlogging has started in every ward across the city. This has led to waterlogging in various government office courtyards, alleys and houses in various residential areas.
A field inspection showed that the people of the entire area were waterlogged due to the 2-hour rain in the morning of May 24 (Saturday) in an important residential area of Central Arambagh, which started about two years ago. At least 20 families are waterlogged in the Madbar Bari area of Ward No. 8 of the city. Residents of several residential streets, including a lane on the south side of the small intersection in Ward No. 9 and a half, are waterlogged. People are suffering due to waterlogging in the parking area of the paved courtyard of the Patuakhali 250-bed hospital building.
Md. Sabuj, a local resident of Ward No. 8, said, we have urged the municipality several times to start the blocked drains and road work in the area, but they do not pay any attention to our words, which is why we are in this situation today. We will be waterlogged throughout the entire rainy season.
A police officer, who did not want to be named, said, I live in a rented house in Central Arambagh. It is not possible to live here with my family because of the waterlogging caused by a day's rain. I have decided to change my house.
Municipal Secretary Masum Billah said that the engineering department of the municipality is looking after the road drainage work under construction. They monitor the work by setting the work schedule, so only they can say it is good.
Patuakhali Municipal Administrator Md. Jewel Rana said that since many works started at the same time at the beginning of the municipality's train work, some works are still unfinished. One of the reasons for not completing the work is that the entire length of the drain is not allocated from the beginning to the end.
Every canal of the municipality is being cleaned as planned. In addition to the dirt and garbage in the canals, the flow of the canals is not happening properly due to soil accumulation at the bottom, so all the canals will be cleaned very soon.
