Press conference against propaganda targeting arbitrators in Sreenagar

A press conference was held in Sreenagar to protest against false propaganda. On Monday afternoon, the event was organized under the banner of the people of Keyatkhali area at the upazila premises.
A written statement was read out by Md. Azahar Hossain, a resident of the village.In the statement, he said that there had been a longstanding land dispute between two families in Keyatkhali village.
Following instructions from the OC of Srinagar Police Station, the matter was resolved through arbitration involving the member of Ward No. 7 of the Shologhar Union Parishad and local elders of the village. About two and a half months later, a clash occurred between the two parties. However, certain groups have been falsely accusing the arbitrators and spreading propaganda against them through social media and other means.
He further stated that last Friday, a clash broke out between the parties of Salauddin and Sharif over the ongoing land dispute. Both families had been involved in legal battles over the issue for a long time. Most recently, Sharif’s side filed a complaint at Sreenagar Police Station about two and a half months ago. Acting on this, OC Shakil Ahmed assigned UP member Mokdom Hawlader of Ward No. 7 and other respected villagers to resolve the matter through arbitration. The arbitration was successfully completed in the presence of lawyers from both sides, and both parties accepted the decision and reconciled.
Later, Sharif's group informed the OC that they did not accept the arbitration outcome. The OC gave them one month to submit relevant documents, but they failed to do so. As a result, the OC advised the arbitrators to implement the previous decision. Before this could happen, a physical altercation broke out early Friday morning between Salauddin and Sharif near Rezu Khalashi’s house on the road in West Keyatkhali. Azahar Hossain, along with several locals, intervened to stop the fight.
Regrettably, certain individuals have falsely implicated the arbitrators in the incident through social media, which is entirely untrue. This has been done with the intent to socially humiliate them. The speakers strongly protested against such actions.
Mokdom Member, a representative of the Shologhar Union Parishad said, a man named Delowar Madbor from Atpara village had been fueling the conflict for a long time on behalf of Sharif’s side. The altercation reportedly occurred due to his provocation.
Ali Akbar, Mokazzel Sheikh, M Khaleq Morol, Mokazzel Dewan, Abdur Rob Miah, Md. Ibrahim, and others were present.
