Approximately 6,000 kg of hilsa worth around Tk 4.5 million seized in a joint operation by the Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries in Hatiya, Noakhali.

 Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-ar-Rashid disclosed this information on Wednesday noon.

The Government of Bangladesh has declared a ban on fishing of any species by all types of fishing vessels in the maritime waters every year from April 15 to June 11, totaling 58 days, to ensure proper breeding, production, conservation of marine fisheries resources, and sustainable fishing.

In continuation of this, based on secret information, a special operation was carried out at 1:00 AM on Tuesday midnight, May 7, 2025, jointly by Coast Guard Station Hatiya and the Department of Fisheries in the areas of Tanki Ghat and Chairman Ghat under Hatiya Thana of Noakhali. During the operation, three fishing boats (FB Amena, FB Niha, and FB Babul) were searched and approximately 6,000 kg (150 maunds) of hilsa fish worth around Tk 4.5 million were seized along with the boats, and 56 fishermen were detained.

Later, the seized fish were distributed among local madrasas, orphanages, poor and distressed families in the presence of the Upazila Fisheries Officer of Hatiya, Md. Fayzur Rahman, and the seized boats were fined and released along with a written undertaking from the 56 detained fishermen.

To maintain law and order in the country, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been conducting 24-hour patrols. As a result, the law and order situation in coastal and riverside areas under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard has significantly improved. The Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future as well.
