The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have traced 11-year-old Arabi Islam Suba, who went missing from the Mohammadpur area of the capital.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Mohammadpur Zone, Jewel Rana, confirmed the information on Monday.
He stated, "This appears to be a love-related incident. She ran away with a boy from Naogaon."
The police identified the boy as the same person seen holding hands with Suba in a CCTV footage that circulated on social media.
According to law enforcers, Suba was found at the boy’s home in Naogaon. However, upon realizing the presence of the police, she left the house again.
ADC Jewel Rana added, "We have located the girl and the boy. Their whereabouts have been tracked, but the girl has not yet come into our custody. The boy’s father and uncle informed us that she was at their house in the morning but left again."
He further claimed that the girl's family was being uncooperative, saying, "The police need full cooperation. Multiple teams have been working tirelessly since yesterday. Unfortunately, the girl's family has advised the boy’s family not to hand her over to the police until they arrive themselves."
