Police file 'drug case' after alleged kidnapping attempt in Sirajdikhan

Two people were arrested on charges of attempted kidnapping in Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj. However, instead of filing a case of attempted kidnapping against them, the police filed a case under the 'Narcotics Control Act' and sent it to court.
The two accused are Md. Shahjahan Sheikh (58), son of the late Akkas Sheikh of Abirpara village in the upazila, and Md. Bulu Sheikh (41), son of the late Moti Sheikh of Khilgaon village in Hiron.
The filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act against two individuals, despite specific allegations of attempted child abduction, has created a stir among locals.
Earlier on Wednesday (April 2) at around 2 pm, an 11-year-old fifth-grade student was on his way to his grandmother's house. At that time, 3 people tried to forcefully take him away in a CNG-powered autorickshaw with the intention of kidnapping him. When the child screamed, they abandoned him and fled in an autorickshaw before the people around arrived. Later, after seeing the child's statement and CCTV footage, the locals identified the accused Md. Shahjahan Sheikh and Md. Bulu Sheikh and arrested them and handed them over to the police.
Later, SI Md. Kamruzzaman Sikder of Sirajdikhan Police Station filed a case against Md. Shajahan Sheikh and Md. Bulu Sheikh, who were taken into police custody, for selling 500 grams of marijuana.
In this regard, Sirajdikhan Circle Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Imran Hossain said, "A case is not filed for attempted kidnapping, but if there is kidnapping, a case is filed. And there is no evidence that an attempt was made to kidnap the child.
