Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday held  a breakfast meeting with representatives of international philanthropic and humanitarian organisations at the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations here.

The meeting was held at 8:30am local time on Wednesday at the Bangladesh Permanent Mission in New York as part of the Prime Minister’s engagements during his visit to New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Representatives of several leading global philanthropic and humanitarian organisations, including the Gates Foundation, Visa Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Rotary International, attended the meeting.

The meeting provided an opportunity to highlight Bangladesh’s perspectives on global humanitarian challenges, international cooperation, climate change, sustainable development and economic partnership in the context of the ongoing UNGA session.

During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening international partnerships in Bangladesh’s social and economic development, humanitarian assistance and technology-driven initiatives.

The participants also discussed expanding the scope of global philanthropic and humanitarian cooperation and building effective partnerships for developing countries.

Later, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a high-level side event on the Rohingya crisis at the UN Headquarters.

The event titled ‘The Rohingya Crisis: A Renewed Call for a Durable Solution from Protracted Displacement, with Justice and Accountability’ will highlight the need for a sustainable solution to the crisis, justice and accountability, and international support for the safe and sustainable repatriation of displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to attend a high-level meeting titled “Climate Action and the Just Transition” today.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will deliver Bangladesh’s statement at the General Debate of the 81st UN General Assembly on September 24. It will be his maiden address to the United Nations as the Prime Minister.

Humanitarian crises, climate change, sustainable development, international cooperation and the Rohingya crisis are receiving special focus during the Prime Minister’s New York visit.
