A ‘Partner Congress’ focused on increasing crop production, ensuring nutritional security and promoting agro-entrepreneurship was held in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district on Thursday.
The program was organized by the Upazila Agriculture Office at Upazila Parishad Auditorium under the project “Programme on Agriculture and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, and Resilience in Bangladesh (PARTNER).”
Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Shahriar Morsalin Mehedi presided over the event. Sherpur DAE Deputy Director Agriculturist Md Shakhawat Hossain was present as the chief guest. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Deep Jan Mitra, Additional Deputy Director (Horticulture) Agriculturist Md Alomgir Kabir and Upazila Cooperative Officer Md Naosheduzzaman were present as special guests.
Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Agriculturist Fariha Yasmin conducted the program, while Additional Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Tabassum Maqbula Disha delivered the welcome speech. Other speakers included Agriculture Extension Officer Agriculturist Sagar Chandra Dey and several agricultural officials.
Speakers at the event said that there is a need to increase agricultural production using modern technology, produce nutritious food and adapt agricultural practices to climate change. Along with this, it is necessary to improve the marketing system of agricultural products and ensure fair market prices.
The congress was attended by officials from different departments, local representatives, political figures, community leaders, PFS and non-PFS farmers, sub-assistant agriculture officers, journalist of different media, and other stakeholders were present.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Shahriar Morsalin Mehedi said that the congress aimed to disseminate modern agricultural knowledge and technology among marginal farmers and promote sustainable techniques for better productivity and food safety. The event also featured the screening of a documentary highlighting the achievements and initiatives of the agriculture department, he added.
