State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, MP, stated that the politics of Bangladesh is currently moving into a new era under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He emphasized that one of the primary figures to be credited for the spirit of sacrifice witnessed in July 2024 is the late Wasim Akram, a valiant son of Chattogram, who laid down his life while actively fighting in the revolution to secure the rights of 180 million Bangladeshis.
Barrister Mir Helal made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a discussion meeting titled "Building the Nation in the Spirit of July, Bangladesh First," held on Thursday at the International Convention Centre in Kazir Dewri, Chattogram.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs to observe July Martyrs' Day 2026 with due solemnity.
Addressing the audience, the State Minister remarked that those who were not active in the July uprising might not fully grasp the emotional depth of the movement. He described the 2024 July struggle as a collective war fought by all 180 million Bangladeshis—students, workers, and the general public alike—whether through active participation, moral support, or providing aid to the fighters.
During the event, Barrister Mir Helal mentioned that the BNP and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman remain committed to implementing the 'July Charter.' He recalled the February 12, 2026, general election, where the people granted a clear mandate to the BNP, leading to their victory in 214 constituencies.
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs, Ishraque Hossain, presided over the meeting. In his address, he assured that the government is working on creating an accurate, comprehensive list of martyrs and injured July warriors to ensure they are rightfully honored.
The event featured special remarks by JCD General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, and was attended by several dignitaries, including Members of Parliament Mohammad Abu Sufian (Chattogram-9), Sayeed Al Noman (Chattogram-10), and Humam Quader Chowdhury (Chattogram-7).
