
National Flag Hoisting Day celebrated in DU

Flag Hoisting Day was celebrated in Dhaka University to commemorate the day of hoisting of the first map-drawn flag of independent Bangladesh on March 2, 1971 at the Battala of Dhaka University (DU) and the glorious history of the long bloody nine-month war.
On Saturday noon, the Vice-Chancellor of the University hoisted the national flag along with the national anthem under the bamboo floor adjacent to Kala Bhavan of DU. ASM Maksud Kamal and Vice-Chancellor (Admin) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad
At this time, students of music and dance department performed the national anthem. Later, a discussion meeting was organized in the Battala premises.

In the speech of the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Maqsood Kamal said that the existence of the country called Bangladesh was announced to the world by hoisting the flag on March 2. As a result, the people of Bengal gained the sovereignty of the country through nine months of bloody war. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led the process through which the flag was hoisted. The significance of Flag Hoisting Day is immense to spread the history of liberation war and independence of the country among the young generation.
He said, the significance of today's flag hoisting day is that 'the day is a symbol of a country's sovereignty'. Through this, the sovereignty of Bangladesh was confirmed on this day in 1971. It was a death warrant for the Pakistani rulers. Realizing this, the Pakistani government plans a crackdown. On the other hand, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took the independence of Bangladesh towards the liberation struggle and established Bangladesh as an independent country.
It is to be noted that on March 2, 1971, in a student rally at the Battala of DU, Daksu leaders under the leadership of student leader ASM Abdur Rob hoisted the first national flag of Bangladesh. In the middle of that flag was the map of independent Bangladesh. Every year Dhaka University organizes various programs to commemorate the day.
