Moulvibazar madrasa teacher mysteriously dies after being found unconscious in Ashuganj Bridge area

Maulana Shah Moniruzzaman Jasim Talukder, a teacher at Baruna Madrasa in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar, was found unconscious by locals in a secluded area of the Bhairab-Ashuganj bridge on Saturday morning. He was rescued and admitted to a local hospital. He later died there around 10 pm on Saturday while undergoing treatment.
The deceased teacher, Maulana Moniruzzaman Jasim Talukder, is the son of Abdul Wahid of Majdihi village in Kalapur union of Srimangal upazila. He had been working as a senior teacher at Jamia Lutfia Anwarul Uloom Hamidnagar Baruna Madrasa, the top Qawmi Madrasa in the district, for a long time. The Madrasa authorities said that he also completed his education in the same Madrasa. Maulana Moniruzzaman was known as Chaumuhani Huzur to the students and teachers of the Madrasa and the locals.
His mysterious death has cast a shadow of grief over the entire scholarly community, including his family, madrasa teachers and students.
After leaving his house in the afternoon, someone kidnapped him and took him to the area adjacent to the Bhairab-Ashuganj bridge. Later, he was beaten unconscious and left under the bridge. A local youth saw him and admitted him to a hospital in Bhairab. After admission, Maulana Moniruzzaman posted a video with his photo on Facebook to confirm his identity, which caught the attention of his family members. The family members confirmed the matter by contacting the mobile number given with the video post.
Journalist Mostakim Al Montaj, nephew of Maulana Moniruzzaman Jasim Talukder, said,
We came to know about the matter on Saturday afternoon through the video. Later, we contacted the number given in the video and informed our family members about the matter. We also got to know the details about the rescue of our uncle from the person who rescued him and took him to the hospital.
When asked about the mysterious death of the deceased scholar Maulana Moniruzzaman Jasim Talukder, his rescue from the Bhairab-Ashuganj area in an unconscious state, Muhtamim Maulana Sheikh Nur-e-Alam Hamidi, who lives in the UK, was asked over the phone about the matter at the headquarters of Baruna Madrasa, he said, "After I received the news, our madrasa teacher Maulana Ahmed Zubair Jewel and some members of the family of the deceased Maulana Moniruzzaman were sent there." He said, "To my knowledge, no one has any conflict or previous dispute with Maulana Moniruzzaman Jasim Talukder."
Meanwhile, the Bhairab Police Station is also reeling from the death of Maulana Moniruzzaman Jasim Talukder after he was found unconscious in the hospital. The body was taken to the hospital there for autopsy on Saturday night.
According to the family, the medical certificate issued by the hospital after Maulana Moniruzzaman Jasim Talukder's death listed 'unknown poisoning' as the cause of death. That is, the type of toxic substance that caused the poisoning was not specifically mentioned.
Srimangal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Abdullah Al Mamun said that he spoke to the family members of the slain Maulana Moniruzzaman. The family members said that he was going to Dhaka on Friday for personal work. Perhaps the miscreants knocked him unconscious on the way and fled. The entire matter is now being investigated by Bhairab Police Station.
On the other hand, the mysterious death of Maulana Moniruzzaman Jasim Talukder has sparked strong reactions on social media. The grieving family, classmates and the religious community want a fair investigation and justice for the incident. Many are condemning and protesting on Facebook, describing the incident as an unusual, mysterious murder.
