The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the bride’s residence in Kakrabunia village, Kakrabunia Union, Mirzaganj Upazila. The accused groom, Kaosar Sardar (22), is the son of Kalam Sardar from Bara Bighai Union, Patuakhali Sadar Upazila. in Mirzaganj,
According to local sources, arrangements were made for Kaosar Sardar’s marriage to a 16-year-old minor girl, the daughter of Kamal Gazi from Kakrabunia village.
Upon receiving confidential information, local journalists and thana police promptly arrived at the scene. Mirzaganj Thana OC Shamin Ahmed informed the UNO via phone, who ordered the child marriage to be stopped and both parties to be brought to the Upazila Parishad. Around 9 p.m., both parties appeared at the Upazila Executive Officer’s office, where a mobile court was convened. The groom’s side was fined 20,000 Taka for violating Child Marriage Restraint Act, 2017.
UNO Md. Tariqul Islam said, on receiving the information, I stopped the child marriage and imposed a fine of 20,000 Taka on the groom’s side through a mobile court. Operations to prevent child marriage will continue, and the public must be aware of the harmful effects of child marriage.
