Nakla Press Club promotes medicinal plantation

Nakla (Sherpur) Correspondent

To help protect natural medicine and reduce the use of harmful chemicals, the Nakla Press Club in Sherpur has started a special project to plant and preserve medicinal trees.

On Friday and Saturday, the club gave out five cuttings of herbal plant called Gulonch
(Tinospora cordifolia) to 10 plant lovers from different unions in Nakla upazila. These cuttings were meant to be planted around their homes.

At a meeting on Saturday, club members also decided that each of them will plant at least one
tree such as Amlaki, Haritaki, Bahera and Neem in their home yards during the rainy season.
They also plan to grow herbs like Tulsi, Mint (Pudina), Bashok and Gulonch. The club aims to give out more medicinal plants to 100 people in total from all areas of Nakla.

The distribution took place in front of Press Club President Md Musharaf Hossain’s house,
Tasnim Villa, in Nakla town. People from Baneshwardi, Urfa, Chandrakona and Pathakata unions came to collect the plants. Other club members including Delwar Hossain, Fazle Rabbi Rajon, Selim Reza and others were also present.

Earlier, the press club took another step to protect nature by planting a rare herbal vine called Swarnalata along the road from Nakla to the Nakugaon land port. These vines have now started growing well and attract people’s attention.
