BNP-Chhatra Dal clash in Narsingdi: Injured Chhatra Dal activist dies

 Six days after a clash between BNP and Chhatra Dal in Palash, Narsingdi, an injured Chhatra Dal activist, Ismail Hossain (26), passed away while undergoing treatment. He died  around 2 p.m. on Saturday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, as confirmed by his father, Abdur Rahim Bhuiyan.

Ismail Hossain, a resident of Khanepur village in Ghorashal Municipality, Palash Thana, and a known Chhatra Dal activist, was the son of Abdur Rahim Bhuiyan. His father stated, “My son passed away around 2 p.m. on Saturday while under treatment. After the post-mortem, his body will be handed over to us, and we will conduct his funeral in our village tonight after the janaza. We demand justice for this killing and the arrest of those involved.”

Palash Thana Chhatra Dal’s Member Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Papon said, “The deceased, Ismail Hossain, was our activist. He was shot and injured by BNP’s Co-Organizational Secretary Fazlul Kabir Jewel and his men, and he died today while under treatment. Jewel’s group attacked and fired at our peaceful Chhatra Dal procession on June 15, injuring at least 10 people. We condemn this incident and demand that all those involved in Ismail’s killing be brought to justice.”

Palash Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Monir Hossain said, “We have learned that the injured Ismail Hossain has passed away. However, the hospital authorities have not yet officially informed us. Legal steps will be taken once we receive official confirmation.”

The clash occurred at evening on Sunday . Ghorashal Municipality, centered around a showdown between Palash Upazila Chhatra Dal and BNP’s Co-Organizational Secretary Fazlul Kabir Jewel. At least 10 people from both sides were injured, with Ismail Hossain and a passerby, Sohel Miya, being shot. Ismail was admitted to a local hospital, and as his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries six days later. That same night, Ghorashal Municipal Chhatra Dal’s Joint Convener Siam Miya filed a case at Palash Thana, naming Fazlul Kabir Jewel as the prime accused along with nine others and 40-50 unidentified individuals. A counter-case was later filed by Jewel’s group.

Following the incident, police arrested BNP leader Jewel from a private hospital in Dhaka on Thursday
