The husband is a meter reader and his wife is a UP member. Therefore, it has been alleged that a helpless old woman has been deprived of electricity and under house arrest by showing the power.

On Monday morning, while visiting to Sufia's house in Sahabajkandi village of Fatehpur East Union of Matlab Uttar Upazila of Chandpur and went to Sarjamin, it is learned that Sufia, an 80-year-old helpless woman who has lost her husband and children, is living an inhuman life. She has no children. She has adopted a girl, raised her and married her off. Now she is alone. She lives in a shabby tin house. There is no electricity, she has to live in darkness. She has to eat dinner and pray with candles and a bottle of water.

When asked why, Sufia said in a tearful voice, I am helpless. My partners' property was bought by my neighbor's brother-in-law's son Khorshed Alam and his brothers. Now they are trying to forcefully occupy my property. They have fenced off the road to my house. I cannot go out anywhere.

She also said, although electricity was introduced in this village 20 years ago, only my house does not have electricity.
Every time I apply for electricity connection, they block the electricity connection by filing false cases on various pretexts. I want to see some electricity before I die.

Sufia, who lives a non-human life, also said that her neighbor Khorshed Gangra has blocked the way out of her house due to lack of electricity connection.

When she tried to resolve the matter locally several times, Khorshed Alam dropped the matter saying that he had a court case.

After investigating the area, it was learned that Khorshed Alam is a litigious person. He works as a meter reader in the Narayanganj Electricity Office. Knowing that the Rural Electricity Office will not provide a new connection line if she makes any complaint, he made such complaints and deprived Sufia of electricity.

His wife is exerting influence as she is a UP member of the reserved ward. Locals say that in the last union parishad election, he was actively involved in all the party activities of the Awami League and elected his wife. After the fall of the Awami League government, he has now become active in BNP politics again.

When I spoke to Khorshed Alam, he said that there are several cases in the court regarding the place where Sufia is living. This place is mine.

AGM of Pallibidyut Raihanul Islan said, I went to Sufia's house after the news was published in the newspaper. Since there are several cases in the court, the matter is a bit complicated. Even then, we are trying to provide electricity connection to Sufia.

OC Md. Rabiul Haque said, we have not received any complaint in this regard. However, if we receive a complaint, legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
