Staff Correspondent
Titas Gas has been continuously conducting operations to identify and remove illegal gas usage.
As part of its regular operations Thursday led by Executive Magistrate Md. Simon Sarkar, a raiding operation was conducted in the Korail slum near Gulshan under Metro Dhaka Sales Division-4 to remove illegal gas lines.
During the operation, Honorable Managing Director, Engr. Shahnewaz Parvez, personally monitored the operation despite adverse weather conditions, provided urgent guidance, and conducted public awareness campaigns against illegal gas connections in the yards of various consumers. In order to dismantle the illegal gas connections in Korail slum, all connected unauthorized gas lines were disconnected, affecting several roads in Gulshan. During the operation, 700 feet of plastic piping of various sizes were removed.
At the Gulshan Lake View Hotel, against Consumer Connection No. 128-21621, gas was being used commercially without a meter.
A total of 92 cubic feet of gas was being consumed illegally, and a cash fine of BDT 60,000 was imposed by the magistrate, after which the connection was disconnected.
Despite repeated disconnections of illegal connections from various points in Gulshan to Korail slum, new illegal connections were being made. Consequently, on 22 October 2025 (Wednesday) at 09:00 AM, the Managing Director of Titas Gas, accompanied by the leaders of Gulshan Society, inspected multiple illegal connection points in Korail slum. Various electronic and print media representatives were present.
In response to media questions, Managing Director Engr. Shahnewaz Parvez stated that, as part of Titas Gas’ regular operations, illegal gas lines from Gulshan to Korail slum are routinely disconnected. However, miscreants repeatedly reconnect illegal lines. The inclusion of Gulshan Society in these operations is expected to make disconnections more effective and streamlined.
During the inspection, the Managing Director, Petrobangla officials, Titas Gas officials, the President of Gulshan Society, other leaders, and media representatives reviewed previously disconnected illegal connection points. He also instructed relevant parties to implement a coordinated action plan between Titas Gas and Gulshan Society to remove illegal connections to Korail slum.
A total of 71,750 illegal gas connections disconnected along with 152,519 burners, and 291.3 kilometers of pipelines removed.
