
Mass March demanding implementation of Teesta Master Plan in Rangpur on Sunday

The Teesta River Protection Movement will hold a mass march in Rangpur on Sunday, demanding the implementation of the Teesta Agreement and the master plan under the Bengali slogan " Konte Bahe, Teesta Bachao ". Around 50,000 people from the riverbank will participate in this mass march starting from Shapla Chattar in Rangpur metropolis to Rangpur Zilla School Ground in the afternoon.
Asadul Habib Dulu, the chief coordinator of the Teesta River Protection Movement and BNP's Rangpur divisional organizing secretary, gave this information at a press conference at a restaurant in the city on Saturday.
At the press conference, he said that during the previous government's tenure, various organizations held road marches, human chains, and rallies towards the Teesta Barrage to demand a fair share of Teesta water, but nothing happened except for assurances. However, after the fall of the government on August 5, the people of the Teesta region held a two-day sit-in program on February 17 and 18 demanding a fair share of the river water and the immediate implementation of the Teesta Master Plan. Under the banner of the Teesta River Protection Movement with the slogan 'Jagobahe, Teestabanchai', tents were set up at 11 places in five districts at the same time.
He said that during the last program, it was announced that the movement would continue until the Teesta Agreement and the Master Plan were implemented. In view of that announcement, a mass march program has been called for Sunday. BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas and Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu will be present as guests in the program.
Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Convener Shamsuzzaman Samu, District BNP Convener Saiful Islam, Member Secretary Anisur Rahman Laku, Kaunia Upazila President Emdadul Haque Bhorsa, among others, were present at the press conference.
