Mamunul gets bail, one day after warrant issued

Former Joint Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam Mamunul Haque has secured bail in rape case on surrender.
He surrendered before Judge Nazmul Haque Shyamal of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Wednesday noon and sought bail through his lawyer.
Later, the judge granted the bail upon a bond of Tk 1,000.
Earlier on Tuesday, an arrest warrant was issued against Mamunul Haque as he was not present in the court. Following that warrant, he surrendered before the tribunal today and sought bail, said the court police inspector Md Abdur Rashid.
Mamunul Haque's lawyer Adv AKM Omar Farruq Nayon said, "As Mamunul Haque is sick, doctor advised him to take rest. For this, he could not appear in the court on Tuesday (June 25). He applied for time before the court, but the court isuued arrest warrant rejection our time petition."
On April 30, 2021, a case was filed against Mamunul at the Sonargaon Police Station in Narayanganj on charges of rape by his alleged second wife, Jannat Ara Jhorna.
