
Body of man recovered after 4 hours of missing in Gomti River in Burichong

The body of a man Abu Yusuf (55) has been recovered four hours after he went missing while swimming across the river carrying grass for cows in the Burichong section of the Gomti river in Cumilla .
The incident of disappearance occurred in the Gomti river in the Etbarpur area of Bharella Dakshin Union of Burichong upazila at 8 am on Tuesday.
Later, at 11:30 am, the fire service and local people tried to recover the body.
Locals said that Abu Yusuf, son of the Surot Ali of Lucky Bari village in Dakshinpara, Etbarpur, and his brother Humayun Kabir went to the other side of the Gomti river to cut grass for cows on Tuesday morning.
After cutting the grass, the two brothers filled the sacks and entered the water to cross the river. Humayun Kabir reached the bank of the river and started searching for his other brother, but he could not find him.
He then shouted and gathered the local people and started searching by casting a net in the river. Upon receiving the news, a fire service team from Burichang came and entered the river in search of the missing person.
After much searching, Abu Yusuf's body and a bag of grass were recovered from the missing person's place at 11:30 am.
In this regard, Burichang Police Station OC Azizul Haque said, upon receiving the news, a police team went to the scene in the morning. The body was recovered from the river at 11:30 am. Legal action will be taken after talking to the family.
