JU to hold JUCSU election by May 21

After a long 32 years since the last JUCSU held in 1993, the Jahangirnagar University authorities decided to hold the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election by May 21 this year.
On Thursday night, the matter was confirmed in a notification signed by JUCSU President and also Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
“The JUCSU election for 2025 will take place in the third week of May, by May 21. An election commission has already been formed to carry out the election process in accordance with the constitution of JUCSU,” the notification read.
“As per the constitution, the election schedule will be announced at least 21 days before the election date, by the last week of April 2025,” it added.Earlier,The election schedule was initially set to be announced on February 1, 2025, according to the previously declared roadmap.
However, the Jahangirnagar University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has requested the election to be delayed until the JUCSU constitution is reformed and the attack on teachers and students in July is addressed.
