Journalist Nurul Kabir harassed at airport, CA orders investigation
Staff Correspondent
Nurul Kabir, eminent journalist and Editor of the national English daily The New Age, has been harassed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He made this complaint in a Facebook post on Saturday (November 23).
In it, he wrote, I was going abroad to attend a media conference on November 18. I thought that my days of harassment at the airport were over. But I was wrong. Instead, I had to be harassed twice. At that time, I was made to wait for an hour. Later, on November 22, I had to wait for another hour when I returned. Being patriotic is a matter of suspicion in the eyes of intelligence agencies. I am forced to question the patriotism of the intelligence agencies concerned or those in the government who supervise them.
He also wrote, Every time I have gone abroad for more than two decades, the Immigration authorities have harassed me at Dhaka airport. These include making people wait, taking passports, violating confidentiality and taking photos of passport pages. Sometimes they return the documents a few minutes before the flight leaves.
Meanwhile, the office of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has expressed regret and ordered an investigation into the incident. This information was given in a press release by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
It said that the Interim Government will not tolerate harassment of any journalist in the country. Nurul Kabir was known as a voice of reason and a pioneer of ethics in journalism during his long career.
