Jail Killing Day: Another dark chapter in history after the brutal murder of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Dr. Muhammad Mahtab Hossain Mazed

Today is Friday November 3 Jail Killing Day 202348 years have passed since the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15, 1975. Jail killing day-a painful and shameful day in the history of Bangladesh. Jail killings day on November 3 is a witness to the extreme brutality and cruelty of humanity. The immense people of the country, under the leadership and direction of which the country's freedom struggle was advanced and liberated the country in just nine months of bloody war, who performed various state duties of the Mujibnagar government during the liberation war, united the people of this country and raised the flag of victory by accelerating the country's freedom struggleAccording to him, those four national leaders were killed in the dark of night inside the prison on November 3 with the signature of extreme brutality.

The purpose of Ghatakchakra was to erase the ideology of Bangabandhu and the liberation war from the consciousness of the new generation along with the rise of undemocratic dictatorship in the country. That objective of the assassins did not succeed. Four national leaders who were political comrades of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were killed while incarcerated in Dhaka Central Jail.

The four national leaders who led the liberation war on Bangabandhu's behalf were Syed Nazrul Islam, the first interim president of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmad, cabinet member Captain M Mansoor Ali and AHM Kamruzzaman. Every year November 3 is celebrated as Jail Murder Day to commemorate this murder.

Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed with his family at his residence number 32 Dhanmondi on August 15, two and a half months before this murder. After the assassination of Bangabandhu, four of his trusted associates were arrested and sent to prison. On August 15, 1975, when the family of the father of the nation was killed, the nation became destitute. If he was not born, this country would not have been independent, he will have to give his life on the soil of Bengal like this, no one ever thought of Bengali. The killers wanted that no one from the Bangabandhu family could ever come to the state administration. That's why they didn't spare baby Russell. To make the country leaderless, the domestic and foreign conspirators first brutally killed Bangabandhu's family and then the four national leaders.

If we review the history of the national liberation struggle, we will see that during the imprisonment of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman or in his absence, four national leaders - the respected Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, Captain M Mansoor Ali and AHM Kamruzzaman - repeatedly led the nation. But deeply saddened, they were brutally killed in the dark cells of the prison which is considered to be the safest place in the entire world. On November 4, 1975, the then Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (DIG Prisons) Abdul Awal filed a murder case at Lalbagh Police Station. Risaldar Mosleh Uddin was named in the case. It is said that under his leadership, four or five soldiers entered the prison and killed four leaders. The leaders were shot dead. Later death was confirmed by stabbing with a bayonetThrough the heinous murder of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib and the four national leaders, the anti-independence defeated forces and anti-nationalist circles tried to destroy the spirit of the liberation war and make the Bengali nation leaderless by erasing the name of Bangladesh Awami League from the soil of Bengal forever. The aim of the assassins was to destroy the state structure of non-communal democratic Bangladesh and spoil our hard-earned freedom.

Jail killings were another dark chapter in history. Another tainted chapter in the history of the Dhaka Bengali nation is the jail killings. The defeated enemies of the Great Liberation War of 1971 could not accept the independence of this country. To avenge the defeat, the anti-independence local and foreign gang killed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15, 1975. After that, the anti-independence gang led by the murderer Moshtaq got involved in the conspiracy to make this country Pakistan. After the killing of Bangabandhu, the anti-independence circle advanced by plotting that Bangladesh would not be able to turn around and move forward, that independence would fail, that Bangladesh would become a failed state. As a part of this and so that the power of the supporters of independence can never stand up in this country, the conspiracy of torture, killing and torture started on the political leaders and activists. From that conspiracy, they organized this murder inside the jail. Not only the liberation war, these four leaders stood by Bangabandhu as close comrades in all movements and struggles. These four leaders led the Awami League when Bangabandhu was kept in jail at various times and advanced the movement and struggle.
The aim of the Khatak Chakra was to avenge the defeat of the Liberation War by depriving the Bengalis of leadership and relegating Bangladesh to Pakistan. Therefore, after Bangabandhu was detained in Pakistan during the liberation war, the four national leaders who took the victory for Bangabandhu with competent leadership, were also brutally killed like Bangabandhu. During the Liberation War, four national leaders performed historic duties from important positions in the Mujibnagar government. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu was incarcerated in Pakistan Jail and in his absence the four national leaders made outstanding contributions in turning the Liberation War into a People's War. The nation will forever remember the contribution of the four national leaders in the creation of Bangladesh.

In the early hours of March 26, 1975, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested by the Pakistani forces after declaring independence. Syed Nazrul Islam was the provisional president of the government of Bangladesh formed during the liberation war in the absence of Bangabandhu. The Prime Minister of that government was Tajuddin Ahmed, Finance Minister Captain Munsur Ali, Food and Relief Minister AHM Kamaruzzaman. The victory was achieved by conducting the liberation war for 9 months under the leadership of this government. In order to endanger the freedom and sovereignty as well as to make the nation leaderless, following the assassination of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15, 1975, the anti-independence gang brutally killed four national leaders in Dhaka Central Jail while they were incarcerated on November 3, 1975.
The purpose of Ghatakchakra was to erase the ideology of Bangabandhu and the liberation war from the consciousness of the new generation along with the rise of undemocratic dictatorship in the country. He said that the purpose of the murderous gang was not successful. As long as Bangladesh exists, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his ideals will remain forever. After a long wait after many ups and downs of politics, on October 20, 2004, the Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka announced the verdict of the case. Rai escaped accused Risaldar (Captain) Mosleh Uddin, Dafadar Marfat Ali Shah and Dafadar Md. Abul Hashem Mridha was sentenced to death and 12 others were sentenced to life imprisonment. Former ministers KM Obaidur Rahman, Shah Moazzem Hossain, Nurul Islam Manzoor and Taheruddin Thakur were acquitted. Then the matter went to the High Court. The trial ended in 2013 with an Appellate Division ruling.

We must always be prepared to unitedly confront any inaction by anti-independence communal groups and anti-development and anti-democratic forces. The purpose of killing the four national leaders was to eradicate the victory and spirit of Bangladesh's liberation war. But in return for the long struggle and sacrifice of the freedom-seeking people of Bangladesh, the murderous circle of Bangabandhu and their politics of killing were defeated under the leadership of Awami League.

It was midnight that day. A pre-planned ambush. The group of hyenas confirmed the death of the four sun children who were in the safe shelter of the prison by first shooting and then stabbing them with bayonets. Yet at the end of the night comes dawn. But that morning in Bengal was covered in deep darkness. The plan of the killers was to bring Bangladesh back to the Pakistani ideology through this tragic November 3rd murder. And the family members of the four leaders wanted the government to bring the convicted murderers back to the country and implement the trial verdict. August 15th and November 3rd of 75 are based on the same source. By removing Bangabandhu, they thought they could take Bangladesh into the Pakistani country, but they could not be sure, so this November 3rd prison killing. But before death, these four leaders left a colorful political life. Which was dedicated to the welfare of the country and people.

Starting with the language movement, then the liberation war, they were the pioneers in the state building after independence. And that is tomorrow for them. After Bangabandhu's family was killed, the four leaders became the main target of the assassins. And so the conspirators wanted to be sure by killing them. Naturally the question was what the killers wanted. Four leaders' children have lost their fathers. The country has also lost its best children. The family members of the four leaders want little, the scandalous chapter to be known to the new generation. The hardships faced by the families of those who are imprisoned have been expressed in emotional language on the pages of Bangabandhu's 'Unfinished Autobiography' and 'Karagarer Roznamcha'. We made the country independent by fighting under the leadership of the great man of history and four national leaders.

Finally, I would like to say that the cherished dream of the father of the nation and the four national leaders was to bring smiles to the faces of the suffering people of Bangladesh and to ensure economic liberation and transform the beloved Bangladesh into a golden Bengal. Under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, beloved Bangladesh has been transformed into Sonar Bengal and is moving forward in the progress of the future developed BangladeshTherefore, only if they can realize their dreams, the souls of the leaders will find peace.
