Human chain in Shibganj protesting increase in cold storage rent

Human chain and protest meetings were held at two separate places in Shibganj, Bogura to protest against the increase in rent of 17 cold storages this season.
The human chain was held at Balrampur Shahsultan Cold Storage at 2 pm on Saturday and at Khoyrapukur Bazar at 4 pm.
The human chain and protest meeting held in Balrampur organized by potato traders and farmers was addressed by Bogura district potato trader leader Ayub Ali, Shahjahan Ali, Anwar Hossain, Mostafa Mondal, Abu Taleb, farmer Abdul Malek, Ershadul and others. On the other hand, Jewel Rana, Rafiqul Islam, Nayan Master, Haji Helal Uddin, Mahbubur Rahman, Sohrab Rostam, farmer Saidul, Ashraf, Rubel and others were addressed at the human chain and protest meeting held in Khoyrapukur Bazar of the upazila.
Potato traders and farmers present in the human chain said that the cold storage authorities have fixed the rent of potato at 8 taka per kg in the current season without informing anything on various pretexts. We are demanding the administration to immediately reduce the rent and protect the farmers. If the demand is not met, all potato traders and farmers will come together and call for a major movement.
UNO Ziaur Rahman said, we have come to know about the increase in cold storage rent in the current season. An attempt will be made to resolve the problem after discussions with the potato traders, farmers and cold storage authorities of the upazila in the next one or two days.
