A human chain was held in front of Satkhira Municipality on Wednesday  at 10 am demanding the renovation of various roads in the municipality. 

 

Speakers at the human chain, chaired by NISCHA Advisor Professor Mozammel Haque, said that Satkhira Municipality is practically ineffective. Most of the roads in Satkhira city are dilapidated, without lights, without renovation and unfit for movement. Again, some roads are being built where there is no planned drain. Although our Satkhira's resources and financial fruits play a role in the development of the country, they do not even get a drop here in terms of donations. Money is being wasted by repeatedly renovating the same road. Although the roads in the municipality have been in a bad condition for a long time, the municipal authorities have not come forward.

 

 The previous responsible municipal officials have not developed the roads properly, but have embezzled the municipality's money. The then CEO has embezzled money in collusion with the elected mayor Taskin Ahmed. Currently, due to the absence of elected public representatives, the administration officials are performing their duties. The residents of the municipality are suffering from the lack of proper office-based services as the officials are not sitting in their offices. The municipality administrator has been performing his duties for almost eight months, but he has not been able to show any visible development to the residents of the municipality. The speakers also said that when the news of the human chain program called by the movement for safe roads spread in the city, the municipal authorities inaugurated the work of the government college road from the Satkhira post office in advance. Despite the inauguration of the nominal work, no visible progress has been seen. The residents of the municipality are very calm and peace-loving. If the progress of the work on the dilapidated roads of Satkhira is not visible in a very short time, a strong movement will be launched against the municipal authorities.
