Journalists working in Rangamati have formed a human chain demanding the immediate release of DBC News Television's Rangamati District Correspondent Saikat Ranjan Chowdhury.
The protest was expressed through an hour-long human chain program in front of the Rangamati District Commissioner's office at 11 am on Thursday.
The speakers said that taking away a professional journalist like this is a threat to free journalism. Independent journalism is not possible if such an atmosphere of fear persists. 'After 24, we thought that this would not happen again; but it still continues. We want an environment free from fear and anxiety. The program demanded the immediate and unconditional release of journalist Saikat Ranjan Chowdhury.
Anwar Al Haque, President of Rangamati Press Club, presided over the human chain. M. Jisan Bakhtiar, Secretary of the Citizens for Good Governance (Sujon) District Committee, Sameer Kanti De, President of the Communist Party of Bangladesh Rangamati District, Sushil Prasad Chakma, President of the Rangamati Reporters Unity, and Sohag Arefin, President of the Chittagong Reporters Association, spoke. Journalists working in the district, conscious citizens' committees, and people from all walks of life participated in the human chain.
