“Drug abuse can never be tolerated in a country that is home to the legacy of Rebel Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the composer of our national anthem,” said Gaibandha Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Masudur Rahman Molla, emphasizing that drugs are not only a social menace but also a major threat to the future of the younger generation.

He called upon all sections of society to work together in preventing drug abuse and social crimes.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at an awareness program on “Prevention of Drug Abuse and Social Crimes”, organized by RAB-13, CPC-3, Gaibandha, at the Gaibandha Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Thursday.

The program was chaired by Md. Rezaul Haque, Acting Company Commander of RAB-13, CPC-3, Gaibandha. Superintendent of Police Md. Jasim Uddin attended the event as the special guest.

Among others, speeches were delivered by Professor Md. Abdur Rashid, Principal of Gaibandha Government College; noted educationist and litterateur Professor Mazharul Mannan; and Amitabh Das Himun, President of the Gaibandha Press Club.

Drug dens have no place in such an enlightened region, and drug abuse must not receive any form of patronage. A strong movement to eliminate drugs will begin from Gaibandha.

He urged students to take the lead in keeping educational institutions free from drugs and called for the development of anti-drug social movements in every educational institution, including Gaibandha Government College.

Students, teachers, guardians, representatives of social organizations, and people from various walks of life attended the program.
