The Safe Food Court in Kishoreganj has fined three establishments a total of Tk 4 lakh for various offenses including storing rotten meat in freezers and producing food in unhygienic conditions. Among them, the well-known Vhai Vhai Hotel at Jailkhana Mor in Kishoreganj was a primary offender.
The verdict was delivered on Saturday afternoon by Senior Judicial Magistrate Ariful Islam.
According to sources, Vhai Vhai Hotel was fined Tk 2 lakh for producing food in an unhygienic environment and storing spoiled meat in refrigerators. Two other businesses — New Dhaka Food Products and Kishore Food Products, located in Rashidabad Union, were fined Tk 1 lakh each for similar offenses, including poor hygiene and other violations.
During the operation, a mobile court also raided various bakeries, confiscating and destroying expired food items.
Present during the operation were Md. Ashraful Islam Talukder, Kishoreganj District Safe Food Officer, and Shankar Chandra, District Sanitary Inspector. The raids were conducted with support from police, RAB, and an Ansar Battalion team.
However, Mahbub, son of Md. Ahad Mia, owner of Vhai Vhai Hotel, protested the fine, calling it "unjust." Yet, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the presence of rotten meat found in their freezer.
