
Honey trap in Ashulia: Woman among two held for abduction

Police arrested two members of a honey trap gang, including a woman, on charges of abduction and extortion in Ashulia. The victim's motorcycle was also recovered during the operation, while other members of the gang remain at large.
At a press conference held at Ashulia Police Station on Wednesday afternoon, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) of Dhaka district, Shahinur Kabir, briefed the media on the incident.
According to police, the victim, a young man, got acquainted with Sumaiya Jannat alias Sumi Akter through a dating app called ‘TanTan’. Responding to her invitation, he arrived at the Jamgora area of Ashulia, where he was forcibly confined in a house by the gang.
The victim was then reportedly beaten and threatened with death as the gang demanded a ransom of Tk 2.5 lakh. Additionally, they looted his iPhone, cash, and motorcycle.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Ashulia police conducted a prompt raid using cyber technology and arrested Sumaiya Jannat and her associate Md. Yasin Sheikh. Police stated that Yasin has a criminal history and is wanted in multiple cases filed at various police stations.
The arrested duo was produced before the court on Wednesday with a five-day remand prayer. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang, police confirmed.
