Even in the full season, the river and the sea do not meet enough hilsa in Barishal . Buyers are not able to buy the fish that is coming because of the high price.

Previously, thousand maunds of hilsa were coming, but now 150-200 maunds of hilsa are coming to the places. And since the supply of hilsa is less, the price is a bit higher. However, if the supply increases, the price of hilsa will also decrease, the traders said.

While visiting Barishal's largest wholesale hilsa Mokam portroad fish landing center was, it is seen that Tk 1900 hilsa of one and a half kg size, Tk 1750 of 1200 gm size, Tk 1650 of kg size, Tk 1450 of 700 to 900 gm size, Tk 1200 of 500 gm size and 3 pieces each. Hilsa of kg size is being sold at Tk 800.

Meanwhile, buyers say that Hilsa was sold at half its price last year as well. This time the export of hilsa is stopped, but the only reason for the high price is the syndicate of dishonest traders.

Saiful Islam, a private employee who came to Portroad market to buy hilsa, said that while going to the market in the morning, boys and girls are serious about taking hilsa. However, I could not find even one hilsa within the market. Later I went to Nirupa and bought a hilsa weighing 900 grams for 1500 taka.

Not only Saiful Islam image is now in every lower and middle class family. Buyers are expressing disappointment at the high price of hilsa. The situation is such that a class of people have forgotten the taste of hilsa due to the high price.

Another buyer Sohag Jamaddar said, I came to Port Road wholesale market instead of buying fish from the local market hoping to buy it at a lower price.

But here too I see high prices like retail market. Still, I bought 4 small hilsa weighing 500 grams for 2500 taka. The situation is such that people will forget the taste of hilsa within a few days.

A buyer named Sabbir Ahmed said that he came to buy hilsa and had to buy Pangash because he could not bargain. 1200 taka per kg of 500 gram hilsa. Which was earlier 500-800 taka. The price of Pangash fish has also increased. I bought a kg pangash for 280 rupees. Which was earlier between 150-200 rupees.
