Health assistants in N’ganj observe sit-in over 6-point demands
Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj
Health assistants in Rupganj, Narayanganj, staged a sit-in protest demanding the amendment of recruitment rules proposed by the Directorate General of Health Services. Their key demands include updating the rules for field-level health assistants, upgrading their job grade based on educational qualifications, and granting them technical rank status.
The sit-in program was organized by the Rupganj Upazila unit of the Bangladesh Health Assistant Association and took place in front of the Rupganj Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Speakers at the event said that field-level health assistants are working tirelessly to deliver healthcare services to people's doorsteps. Yet, they have long been deprived of the recognition and benefits they deserve.
They further demanded that the proposed recruitment rules be revised to include bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) as a minimum qualification and that the grade be upgraded to Grade 14. They also called for in-service diploma training to lead to promotion to Grade 11, the conferral of technical rank status, and consistent promotion to higher grades in line with service hierarchy.
The speakers urged the government to take immediate steps to implement their demands and warned that tougher programs would follow if their issues remain unaddressed.
