World Environment Day celebrated in Faridpur

World Environment Day was celebrated in Faridpur with various events including  coloirful rally, discussion meeting, and prize distribution ceremony for winners of different competitions were held in Faridpur town on Wednesday. 
 
The discussion meeting was held  at the DC's  conference room  organized by the Faridpur District Administration and the Department of Environment. The meeting was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Sohrab Hossain and conducted by Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Md. Said Anwar.
 
Among others present at the event were Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shamsul Azam, District Education Officer Bishnupad Ghoshal, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Shahaduzzaman, senior journalist Panna Bala, Executive Director of SDC Kazi Ashraful Hasan, District Cultural Officer Saiful Hasan Milon, and Professor Shipra Roy, President of SHONAK.
 
Speakers at the event highlighted various aspects of environmental degradation and called on everyone to work together to address these issues. In particular, they urged all to work jointly to prevent plastic pollution. Later in the event, prizes were distributed among 25 winners of different competitions.
 
Meanwhile, on the occasion of 'World Environment Day 2025,' a debate competition and discussion meeting were held at Government Rajendra College, the top educational institution of the southern region in Faridpur.
 
With the theme “Students’ role is key in building a livable Bangladesh through environmental protection,” the event took place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday in the college hall room. The debate and discussion were presided over by Associate Professor of the Social Work Department and Convener of the World Environment Day 2025 Celebration Committee, Md. Selim Reza.
 
The event was graced by Government Rajendra College Principal Prof  S.M. Abdul Halim as the chief guest. Vice Principal Professor Md. Obaidur Rahman attended as the special guest.
 
Also present were Head of the Department of Geography and Environment Professor Swapan Kumar Halder, Secretary of the Teachers’ Association Mohammad Fazlul Karim, as well as teachers and students of the college.
 
Earlier at 10:00 AM, a rally was organized by the teachers and students of the college. The debate competition on environmental topics began at 11:00 AM.
 
In the subsequent discussion session, the guests presented their important insights on environmental issues. Declaring Government Rajendra College as a “Clean Campus and Green Campus,” the speakers said they have been working continuously to maintain the campus’s cleanliness and greenery. Already, a large number of trees have been planted across both campuses of the college.
 
Later, certificates and commemorative plaques were awarded to the two participating teams of the debate competition.
