Court Correspondent
The High Court (HC) on Monday ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to take legal actions against former police chief Benazir Ahmed and his family members, as the court accepted an investigation report confirming huge illegal assets of the Benazir family.
The court has asked ACC to continue its investigations, and set 5 November as the date for submission of the next progress report.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth Hossain passed the order during a hearing session on an ACC report on the progress of investigations into allegations of widespread corruption committed by Benazir.
ACC had submitted its progress report before the court a day earlier claiming Benazir, his wife and their two daughters together held illegal assets worth over Tk43.4 crore. It said investigation has to continue to uncover more movable and immovable illegal assets.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan presented the report, while AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state. There was no lawyer on behalf of Benazir and his family.
